Absolutely Gospel is reporting that George Beverly Shea has been hospitalized with a stroke. He is 104 years old.

UPDATE, 4/16/13, 11 AM: Shea’s official Facebook posted this update: “Thank you to everyone for your kind comments, thoughts and prayers. I am resting comfortably with family and friends in God’s amazing grace.”

UPDATE, 4/17/13, last night: Shea has passed away.

Southern Gospel songs focus on many of the highest themes known to mankind—songs of Salvation, the Cross, the Resurrection, and eternity. But critics claim that they focus on these themes to the exclusion of other Biblical themes which are appropriate and perhaps necessary to address in song.

Back in the 1980s Scott Wesley Brown sang a song titled “Blessed to be a Blessing.” That title has stuck with me. Do I realize just how blessed I am and am I faithful to be s blessing to others because of the blessings I’ve received? 

I hope my life radiates with God’s love. I truly have been given much and I need to give back to God what He requires of me. He is faithful. May I be faithful in return.
