Saturday News Roundup #24

Posted in: Saturday News Roundup, Southern Gospel News — Daniel J. Mount @ 8:26 am

In Southern Gospel news from the week:

  • Via Burke’s Brainwork: In his email newsletter, Ricky Atkinson announced that former Florida Boys bass singer (and current SG soloist) Gene McDonald will be doing selected dates with Ricky Atkinson & Compassion throughout October. They are considering bringing him into the group and turning the trio into a quartet.
  • The Woodsmen Quartet announced that Derrick Boyd is joining the group as their tenor. Boyd has one of the longest resumes in Southern Gospel; he been a member of the Dixie Melody Boys, Heaven Bound, Carolina Boys / Kingsmen, Blackwood Gospel Quartet (photo here), Safe Harbor, and possibly another group or two that I’m forgetting right now.
  • Ernie Haase & Signature Sound is scoring high on MySpace’s top artists charts. I’m not sure what metric they use (friends? songs added to profiles? profile visits? all of the above?), but they are currently #1 on MySpace’s Top Christian Artists chart and #23 on the overall chart (hitting at #21 earlier this week).

Next week, be watching for reviews of the latest from the Old Paths Quartet (Tuesday 10/7) and the Mark Trammell Trio (Friday 10/10).
