UPDATE: Dove Brothers post soundtracks for Life …then pull them

Posted in: Southern Gospel News — Daniel J. Mount @ 7:44 pm

Jerry Martin just sent out an email newsletter announcing that he’d just made the soundtracks from their Life project available for download from their store. What makes this move unusual and noteworthy is that this is perhaps the first time in Southern Gospel history where a Southern Gospel group has released soundtracks for a project even before the project was released.

The Dove Brothers themselves haven’t yet received Life, though they did approve final proofs last week.

UPDATE (2/22/08, 1:39 PM): That was short-lived. Jerry Martin just sent out another email newsletter, that he has pulled the soundtrack downloads for now.

Daywind signs Crabb Revival

Posted in: Commentary, Southern Gospel News — Daniel J. Mount @ 8:27 am

Daywind Records just announced the signing of Crabb Revival. The act is composed of Adam Crabb, Terah Crabb-Penhollow, and a band, and is the only group coming out of the Crabb Family with two of the Crabb siblings fronting the group.

This is an interesting move both for Daywind and the Crabbs. Most of Daywind’s headliner artists have stayed pretty solidly within the Southern Gospel genre, while everything I’ve heard from people who have attended Crabb Revival concerts indicates that they are more progressive than the Crabb Family. This move could help the Crabbs keep one foot solidly in Southern Gospel, while at the same time reaching out to new audiences.
