Original Gold City Lead Singer passes away

Posted in: Southern Gospel News — Daniel J. Mount @ 6:56 am

Gold City distributed a press release yesterday announcing that their original lead singer, Jerry Ritchie, had just passed away:

We have just learned that Jerry Ritchie, original Gold City lead singer, passed away just after midnight this morning, following a lengthy battle with cancer.  Ritchie is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Greg and wife Charlotte; son, Jason and wife Autumn; one grandson, Landon; four granddaughters, Jayna, Isabella, Gabriella and Elliana, as well as two sisters and one brother.

The Ritchie family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, beginning at 12:00 noon at the Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc, MS.  A Memorial Honor Guard Service will be held Thursday, July 3, at 2:00 PM at Cook Memorial Baptist Church in Houlka, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the Ritchie family has requested that donations be made to the Tutor Memorial Funeral Home, 270 Coffee Street, Pontotoc, MS.  Cards and notes of encouragement may also be sent to the Ritchie family in care of Tutor Memorial Funeral Home.

Please remember to keep the Ritchie family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Okay. That was a shock! He was one of their best lead singers.

My prayers are with the family at this difficult time. I remember Jerry, Bob Oliver, Ken Trussler and Harold McVey (temporary fill in at bass before Tim) singing at the GA Mountain Center in 1980. They had an awesome sound. Jerry, you will be missed! God is building an awesome choir to welcome the rest of us home.
