Gallery Update: Gold City

Posted in: Photos — Daniel J. Mount @ 6:55 am

Reader Matt Paasch went to a Gold City concert last weekend, and has posted an extensive photo gallery: http://www.southerngospelblog.com/gallery/?level=album&id=16.

He also picked up several interesting tidbits of news about Gold City’s upcoming projects. Their next project, Moment of Truth, is set to include remakes of the Imperials’ “Cast Your Bread Upon the Water” and a little-known Cathedrals track from the early 1980s, “Turn Your Back.”

They are also working on a Classics 2 project of songs that earlier lineups of the group have recorded. That album will include Just Like You, How Deep is the Water, and Holy Anointing. (Brandon Coomer added that the project will also include “Glory is Waiting” and “Love Went Deeper.”)

I hope Tex can do justice to George’s vocals on “Turn Your Back”. That is an awesome song. One of my favorites from the Cats!

“Turn Your Back” is one of those songs like “Ain’t That What It’s All About” just waiting for a re-make by a quality group. That song was first recorded in the earlier days of Trammell & Talley. I heard it encored three times one night. It is one of those songs that got crowded out of their program by more great songs. I can’t wait to hear it again.

I posted a video of the Talley/Trammell/Bennett version of the Cats singing “Turn Your Back” on my YouTube page. You should be able to click on my username to go to my video homepage.

I’m anxious to hear both projects. Can’t wait to hear how “How Deep Is The Water” sounds.

I love “Love Went Deeper.” I grew up listening to that cassette till it was worn out. I can still remember how those words affected me - It was a great song.

I would love to here them do a live rendition of “Movin’ Up To Gloryland”. Or, “Ain’t God Good”.

If the album has the standard 10 tracks, that leaves us with five to guess on, unless someone wants to ask Gold City next time they see them…..
