New CD Ratings System?
While I’ve tried a few different CD rating systems before, I admittedly haven’t done done a great job at sticking with them. At least for the next few CDs I’ll review, I’ll try implementing a simple three-option system.
Rating: Enjoyable. If a project doesn’t meet at least this criteria, it doesn’t get reviewed!
Rating: Recommended. Most Southern Gospel fans should find at least several songs they particularly like on this project.
Rating: Highly Recommended. These will be the projects that I consider to be among the best of the year.
Here are four reviews where I went back and added the rating: The Pathfinders; Triumphant Quartet; Southern Sound; Liberty Quartet.
What do you think of this system?

I like it. Very uncomplicated. Simple. To the Point!

Wow, you’re fast! I just posted this, and I was working on a minor edit (giving an illustration) right now.

The new ratings work for me, too!

It doesn’t get much simpler and easier to understand than that. I say stick with the new system.

Dear Danial,
I have to take exception to your reviews,It seams that
all of the reviews you do seem to be bios toward THE BIG name groups( or FULL TIME) even a couple of Cd’s I have taken the time to listen to and they were not on pitch and that was not put in the review. I know most of the so called Regional groups in your reviews only get a enjoyable and a lot of the BIG NAME groups get a recommended or higher, even tho some of there Cd’s
are not as good as the regional groups
I have been in the recording business for almost 35 years as a producer and Engineer so I do think my resume speaks for itself when it comes to what a GOOD CD and not so good is.
It would be hard me for me to take some of your reviews to heart ,when they are not as consistent as I am use to.
I’m not trying to put you down or anything like that ,just trying to help .

David,
It all comes down to the songs. That’s probably the biggest factor that works its way into my ratings. A group that introduces new songs and does them well is going to get a higher rating than a group that does a decent job with songs that every other regional and national group has already recorded half-a-dozen times.
