Joining Crossroads
I have never measured my value as a Southern Gospel journalist by the distance I maintain from the genre.
Some hold that the more distance you keep from your topic, the more accurately you can write about it. But I incline toward the opposite view: The more contacts and friends I make, the more accurate I am. Over the last few years, I’ve been making contacts and friends at every opportunity. Earlier this month, one of these friends offered me a job.
I have accepted a part-time position helping Crossroads develop artist community sites. This is the same label I helped two years ago at NQC 2008 with TalleyTree-o.com, and last year with five sites. (Side note to local friends: This is in addition to my day job, and I will be staying in Ohio for the time being.)
I have received the green light to continue this site. There should be so few changes that readers who missed this post probably won’t notice anything different.
I am looking forward to helping artists develop online communities. And I am equally looking forward to keeping this site going, hopefully even stronger and more insightful than before.

Congratulations Daniel! What an exciting opportunity and you are just the guy for the job. The Crossroads’ artists will reap the benefits of having you on their team. I read your posts daily but don’t think I’ve ever responded to one. However, as an independent artist, Crossroads is someone I watch closely. They continue to do the right things over there and I like to glean in their fields as much as possible. They have taught me much just by their example. Likewise, I have learned much from reading your site and the comments here. I’m glad you are not going anywhere and wish you the very best!

Although I tend to lean toward the point of view that it’s better as a writer not to get too close to your subject matter in a personal way(it CAN affect one’s judgment), I know how much you love this genre…and I happen to believe you will be a tremendous posiive asset to any company or artist that chooses to have you as a part of their team…so with that in mind, a hearty “congatulations” on becoming a part of Crossroads!

Being able to keep this going was high on my priorities list when ensuring everything would work out.
You mean it wasn’t on the top? Well … I guess … maybe you do have other stuff in your life besides keeping us all up-to-date on the best sort of music

I mean, there were things like making sure my skills fit what they needed, and that telecommuting would work—things integral to the job itself—but for things not integral to the job itself, this was the first thing I asked about.
Daniel, Good For You ! People rarely succeed at anything unless they enjoy doing it. Your positive attitude and kind comments have played an important role I’m sure in helping Crossroads make the decision to have you on their team. ( Life is more accurately measured by the lives you touch than by the things you acquire ). Best Wishes !

A couple people (not on this site) asked me if working 40 hours per week plus this would totally exhaust me. My answer was that this is the same type of thing I was already doing for fun anyhow . . .
Wow! Now days so many people are looking for a job. For you to get this opportunity is a ‘God thing’ and all I can say is ‘way to go, God and way to go Daniel’. Congrats!!!!
I know! So many industries are shrinking or suffering—and truth be told, things aren’t economically easy in Southern Gospel either—so until this came up as a possibility, the thought that I would ever work in the industry was such a long shot that I didn’t even really consider the possibility!
