Florida Boys to go out in Grand Style

Posted in: Southern Gospel News — Daniel J. Mount @ 5:00 pm

I was thrilled to see this press release drop into my inbox today:

Earlier this month, owners of legendary Gospel quartet, The Florida Boys announced plans to retire from touring in July. While that retirement date is still firm, the multi-award winning quartet has agreed to perform at all of their previously scheduled performance slots during the National Quartet Convention scheduled to be held in September.  The group will be joined during those performances by several former quartet members, as well as the current group as it exists at the time of their retirement.

Additionally, the National Quartet Convention will feature a special segment on the Saturday evening concert, paying tribute to The Florida Boys’ 60-year career.  The tribute will be followed by a very special, last performance by The Florida Boys.

Complete schedule information is available at www.natqc.com or by calling the NQC office at 800-846-8499.

Now that’s the way a quartet of their stature is supposed to go out–with a bang, not a fizzle.

You are so right young Daniel…as usual…and congratulations to to the men we call The Florida Boys!
Personally, I hope Rick Busby (an old Arkie) is there to sing their greatest Hit ever “When He Was On The Cross”.
Without looking, do you know who was the arranger of that legendary cut of that modern standard?

If you’re asking, it was probably Lari Goss. :)

If they were to get Busby, I’d love it if they also did “One Splendid Day” and “Paid in Full,” my two favorite songs from their Busby days. :)

I think you are right again…as usual.

That final performance better be the lineup with Gene McDonald and Harold Reed in it because, IMO, that was their best!

Last I heard, Busby was battleing some cronic, progressing illness, but I can’t remember what.
It’d be great if he could be there, but I don’t think it’s very likely if his health has declined further.

I just want to say i saw the florida boys July 21st and they moved this Pastor like I had never been moved before and to all of their critics I say God Bless you because they are a Blessing no matter who is singing.

Why is Butch Owens being left out of the NQC Florida Boys lineup? He was only there a few weeks, but he was there and did a great job. I’ve been a fan ALL MY LIFE, but I’m disappointed that Les (probably Clark) is not presenting the final Florida Boys lineup.
