Cross & Crown Music, which owns the old Eddie Crook Company family of labels, just launched a site (www.memoriesfrommorningstar.com) where reissued classic MorningStar releases by the Bishops, Booth Brothers, Crabb Family, Perrys, Isaacs, and others are available on CD and mp3. (Hat tip, Wes.)
I was nine projects away from a complete Perrys collection, and one of the missing titles (Full Circle, 1995) was available at this site, so I purchased it on mp3. The PayPal-based shopping cart and the site’s download system are intuitive enough that there should be no issues there. (For the record, my order was assigned an order number. 3. If this site catches on, I suppose I’ll have a claim to fame.)
There is one audio issue I’ve contacted them about (no response yet): Each of the mp3s seems to have about 1/2 second of the intro to the next song shortly before the end of the track. Some of the songs sound complete, but some sound like they are missing that 1/2 second at the beginning. If I hear back I’ll update this post with the speed and quality of their customer service.
EDIT (10/7/09): They emailed back today with the corrected files. Issue resolved!
many months back, i noticed that morning star had released the mp3 collections to emusic and I downloaded a few of the classic albums. On a few of the ones that i downloaded, i did notice that glitch where they are missing the beginning..it was weird. Glad to know it wasn’t just me
I placed order number 4. Unfortunately, I could only download five of the ten songs on the Palmetto State Quartet album that I ordered.
The order says my link to download will expire on 10/10, but it shows zero downloads remaining on all ten songs.
I did use a download manager (down them all), but I only tried to download each song once…five arrived, the other five didn’t.
Not a good first-time buying experience. Why on earth would they just give you one shot at downloading the song after you’ve already paid for it???
I have sent an email to see if they can straighten it out.
Follow up…
A rep from Cross 4 Crowns reset the downloads, and I was able to get them this time…haven’t had a chance to listen to the other five yet. He also sent me direct links for each individual song via YouSendIt, which was a nice customer service touch!
…er, make that Cross & Crown…you know what I mean!

Interesting – I bought some songs from an old Crabb family album which had the same problem Daniel mentions – but I got them off of iTunes. I thought it was iTunes fault, but now I am guessing it wasn´t.
They Have Rainbow Avenue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will have to wait till I get back home to get it, but it will be one of the first things I do afterwards. I have wanted that song for years!!!
For comparison, I just checked at Crossroads, and an MP3 I purchased from them in August 2008 is still available for download.
David,
I am truly sorry for the problems you all have experienced. This is a new site and we are working out the kinks. As for the downloads they should be fixed now David and yours have been reset. Please let me know if that doesn’t take care of it. I emailed you yesterday morning. For the first comment, we only added them last week to be downloaded as MP3’s so I am not sure what you got many months back. We are working to resolve the missing portion issue and see where the problem lies. Thank you all for your grace as we go through the growing pains!
Best,
Brian
Thanks!
I now own “Rainbow Avenue”!!!!!
I am going to enjoy this ….
(I’m glad those Crabb Family ones got fixed … maybe I should have complained about my iTunes problem.)
