George Younce’s daughter Dana Willis passes away

Posted in: Obituaries — Daniel J. Mount @ 5:28 am

Dana Willis, daughter of George Younce and sister-in-law to Ernie Haase, died suddenly yesterday of a heart attack. This has been confirmed on a number of message boards (and in a brief statement on the Singing News website). Her husband Robbie Willis, former Nelons band member, was on a tour up in Michigan at the time. Perhaps because of this, there is no official statement or funeral arrangements yet, but this post will be updated once those are available.

EDIT (8/12/09, 4:47 PM): Ernie Haase has more information and funeral arrangements here.

I’m so shocked, and so sad for the family. She was only 47. I met and talked with Dana at several concerts the past couple of years, and at NQC last year…. a very special lady. I’ll miss seeing her in the future. Praying for all the family.

Praying for the Willis, Younce, Haase families as well as the other members of this family. My heart breaks for them as they face this sudden loss. We grieve as ones with the HOPE of Christ, but we do grieve. May God wrap His arms tightly around this family during these trying days and in the days to come.

I just got an update from EH&SSQ. Here it is:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dana Younce Willis, sister of Ernie Haase’s wife, Lisa, and daughter of the late George Younce of the legendary Cathedrals Quartet.

Dana suffered a heart attack on August 10 and died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Powder Springs, GA. She was 47.

    Visitation: noon-2 p.m. Funeral Service: 2 p.m.

    Powder Springs, GA 30127

Dana was a loving, devoted wife to husband Robbie, with whom she owned Willis Tours, a charter and rental bus company.

“This is a sad, sad time and a very unexpected event,” says Ernie Haase. “Dana was a truly wonderful sister, sister-in-law and daughter who loved life and was the sweetest person I’ve ever met. We are just devastated by her loss, but know she is happy to be with her father and her Heavenly Father.”

Dana loved gospel music. It was her life, says Ernie. In celebration of her memory, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound will sing at her homegoing service this Friday.
