Video: All-Star Quartet at GWSGFF

Posted in: Videos — Daniel J. Mount @ 6:24 am

From the too good not to post department comes this video of the all-star quartet at last weekend’s Great Western Southern Gospel Fan Festival in Fresno, California:

The idea of an all-star quartet is one that NQC would do well to adopt—a (say) three-song set with familiar classics that all the nominees would know would be a Saturday night draw for those who aren’t already drawn by the awards ceremony.

I don’t know how many times they practiced this piece, but to my untrained ear, it was marvelous! The voices seemed to blend well, and I’d forgotten what a wonderful singer Jim Brady is.

Jim Brady……..yea, he’s ok….if you like great singing, songwriting and impeccible tone placement…..I mean if that’s your kind of thing…..lol.

He is awesome and the quartet was pretty good!

That was great. They blended well together. I wish they would do something like that at the National Quartet Convention.

I was there, and its was definitely one of the highlights that evening! I just wished they would have done more than just that one song.

If you folks like these “scrap iron quartets” you should go to Grand Ole Gospel Reunion as they do this sort of thing every year. It is the most fun we have in the course of a year.

Brady was good but what about David! He flat out sang the tenor part, Davids a solid singer on pitch everytime! Great quartet, off the cuff is awesome!

I’ll have to echo Ben on that one. There are all-star quartets singing on the jam sessions and some even on the main programs all the time and every night. Can’t wait for this year!

They’ve done the All Star quartet thing in the past at NQC. In ‘94, it was Danny Funderburke, Ivan Parker, Squire Parsons, and George Younce. In ‘95, it was Ernie Haase, Dale Shipley, Glen Allred, and ….I’m drawing a blank on the bass. Anyhow, they were backed by an All Star Band and did two songs between the Fan Awards and the rest of the program on Thursday night.

Yes, I think they should a quartet with the winners of the favorite tenor, lead, baritone, and bass awards.

That’s one option, but it’s based on voting that took place months ago, including many votes from people who won’t be there. It would be really something to have live voting from the fans on, say, Thursday or Friday (depending on how voting takes place and how long it takes to tabulate ballots). That way if someone has a really stellar week at NQC, or a major group comes out with the next big find that really blows everyone away, that can be reflected. :)

Yeah Alan. Remember the “Un-Original Master’s Five”. We got requests for CD’s that evening! One of the most fun things I have ever been involved in.
