Positive Daily Commentary on Southern Gospel

Three consecutive #1s

Posted in: Radio — Daniel J. Mount @ 8:48 am

An interesting little tidbit for the day: Songwriter Rusty Golden, whom I interviewed here, has had three songs he’s written or co-written singled to Southern Gospel Radio. “John in the Jordan” (Signature Sound) was #1 in May 2007. “What Salvation’s Done for Me” (Booth Brothers) is #1 on the April 2009 chart, and I’ve heard that “I Want to Thank You” (Karen Peck and New River) is going to be #1 in May 2009. So his first three singles all went to #1. Not bad!

Write tunes as catchy as “John in the Jordan” and I’m sure you will! ;)

Congrats to Rusty! If KP&NR are #1 for May, he will join the list as one of few songwriters to have a different songs at #1 within a two month period. I believe the last songwriter to have that distinction is Marcia Henry back in Sept. and Oct. ‘07. I’d like to hear more from Rusty in the future. Sounds like he may be a moving force for SG’s future. Anywho-Things like this need to be recognized more publicly. It’s an amazing accomplishment not every writer is privileged to accomplish!

Rusty has also written the new song from the McKameys, “Between 12 and 33″ it’s a really neat song.

Rusty Golden is a great songwriter. He has such a way with words.

When I heard “I Want To Thank You” I knew that would be a big song. I love the line about the late night tv preacher because that is Rusty’s testimony of how he got saved.

#6-Have they released that song to radio? I noticed that “I’ve Made Up My Mind” was slowing down on the charts.
