SG picks up Dove Award nominations
Southern Gospel picked up quite a few nominations in the major categories in this year’s Dove Awards. Among the most notable are that Signature Sound is up for Group of the Year, Song of the Year, and Male Vocalist of the Year (Ernie Haase). Their pianist, Wayne Haun, is up for producer of the year.

The Gaither, Canaan, and Daywind artists seem to be doing the best in nominations. And the nominations seem to get stronger each year—there are few if any artists that make you scratch your head and wonder who could have voted for them.

I was especially pleased to see a few Canaan artists receive nominations as well (Kim Hopper, the Hoppers, and Mike LeFevre Quartet).

It is great to see all of those represented in the Dove Award nominations, though I have to scratch my head at “Jesus And John Wayne” – dumb song – if we get to Heaven, we are going to have to be alot closer to Jesus, and not at all close to John Wayne

If you really listen to the song you will understand it’s lyrics were written for Guy
Penrod! This song is all about who he is! How can people not
get this? If you follow Guy closely you will ‘get’ the song, and,
I might add love it! I think this song deserves a Dove, and it
is a wonderful song.

Mark, “Jesus and John Wayne” reminds me of the song “Somewhere in the Middle” by Casting Crowns. It’s not a song about where we “should be”, it’s more about where we ARE. Not all songs about our relationship with God are idealized. Some are just honest.
Go Ernie Haase & Signature Sound! You guys so deserve it!

I think EH&SS should be recognized for the way they are reshaping the way things are done. However, I do not think Ernie should be up for Male Vocalist of The Year. I think he’s very smart for doing things the way he has and has done a great job with his group – but this is talking about being a vocalist and when compared to all the other possibilities out there – Ernie just simply falls short.
However, it would be great for him to win it, since he’s in the position to now.

I really feel bad for GC… their new group has done an excellent job with their current album IMO.

I think you forgot to mention Karen Peck’s Female Singer nomination. I missed seeing more strictly SG artists (Perrys,Legacy Five,Greater Vision, etc.) on the list of nominees.

GO Hoppers! I definitely think they deserve their Doves, they’re the only ones in their category that have been around for 52 years. I mean i LOVE my job but I couldn’t do it for for half a century and not go nuts or call it quits. If you’re a GMA member- vote Hoppers! Besides, if we go ahead and give them these then they probabaly won’t ask for anymore ! LOL
