Reason Enough hits #1

Posted in: Radio — Daniel J. Mount @ 7:30 am

Singing News posted their January 2009 Top 80 Chart earlier this week (subscriber-only link). Sitting atop the chart was Signature Sound’s current single, “Reason Enough.”

Though the group tends to be associated with having the highest-energy live show in our genre, this mid-tempo song brings out a mellower, more comtemplative side of the group. The song itself is simple, very simple. But there’s a beauty in the simplicity of the message and its delivery that could make the song live on years beyond the group.

The song can be heard in its entirety on the group’s myspace page.

If I had my way, I’d love to see this month’s #2, “When God Ran,” move to the top spot next month, and perhaps #7 (currently Daywind’s highest-ranked single), “The Potter Knows the Clay,” the following month. But only time will tell!

What matters, though, is that the message of these songs is getting spread across the airwaves all over the nation, and people are hearing the Gospel presented through song. That’s what counts in the end.

This is probably my favorite EHSS single. It far surpasses anything else they’ve put out on radio. When I first heard the song on radio it sounded like the GVB.

And, I predict Gold City will be #1 after EHSS with “I Cast My Bread Upon The Water”.

I’m glad that EHSS get’s to showcase a different style and maybe win some more fans in the process.

I REALLY hope that When God Ran hits #1 for two reasons:
    1) Its a GREAT song, with a POWERFUL message
    2) I think it would help boost the kingsmen more

And i DEFINITELY want “I Cast My Bread” to go number one, catchy song and features all the guys.

I predicted this would go number one after seeing a video clip of the secon verse back in May. Do I get a prize? LOL

Grigs – I’d be delighted to give you the silver medal.

I was speaking of it highly by February: http://www.southerngospelblog.com/archives/721

Even though I didn’t post it here, I was telling people I thought it would go to the top. :)

I’d like to see the Inspirations song, “The Rose”, go to #1 sometime soon. Joseph Habedank and Matthew Holt both did a great job writing that one! I’m surprised the Whisnants’ song hasn’t made it to the top yet either.

@Andrew: Typically any song that makes it to the top 10 is good enough to deserve to be #1. :)

@Allen: Yes, Benny Hester in the 70s, then Phillips, Craig, and Dean in the late 90s or early 00s.

Love the song. It speaks to the heart. Yes Ernie, Tim, Doug, and Ryan presented it well. Go EHSSQ!

I’d like them to release ‘Sundays are Made for Times Like These (I think that’s the title)’. I think that’s a great thought provoking song too. Talk about the good ole days. It use to be that way. No e-mails. Just going to church and then coming home and just sitting around enjoying time with the family.

I just saw this on Facebook b/c I’m friends w/Bryan Hutson. He said that “When God Ran” is #1 for February 2009!! This makes the first #1 song for the Kingsmen in almost 8 years…since May 2001!! YAY!!! :D
