Only in Southern Gospel…
Only in Southern Gospel could you go up to a 40-something performer after a concert and hear a little old lady say this—and mean it as a compliment:
“This is the best concert I’ve heard since I heard your group back in ‘52. And you weren’t even born yet!”
(The group was the Blackwood Brothers, and the singer was Randy Byrd.)

Randy Bird wasn’t alive before 1952? He looks old enough to be my grandfather, and my mom was born in 1951.

Interestingly, though he could pass for being Jimmy Blackwood’s age, he’s actually early or mid-40s. He’s about Wayne Little’s age, and might even be younger.

Doesn’t he have grandkids? Then again, I’m 31 with a 13-year-old, so I could be a grandfather by my early 40’s as well.
