Phil Barker and Joe Lane launch Jordan’s Bridge
Singing Americans alumni Phil Barker and Joe Lane have just launched a new group, Jordan’s Bridge. They have been friends since their Singing Americans years; Lane filled in for several weeks on piano during Barker’s time with the group. Barker left the group in 1988; Lane joined himself in 1992. They discussed starting up a group for years, and recently decided the time was right. They performed their first concert last Sunday, December 30th.
Barker, the group’s tenor, also sang tenor for the Harvesters before joining the Singing Americans. Lane, the pianist, also played for the Anchormen both before and after his 1992-1994 stint with the Singing Americans. He was introduced to a new generation of Southern Gospel fans in a recent tenure with the Dove Brothers. They will be joined by lead singer Rick Sheets and baritone singer / bass player Jamey Lane (Joe’s younger brother).
Joe Lane commented on the group’s mission: “We all have the same goal and that is to have a servant’s heart and see lost come to know the Lord. I’m tired of not doing all I can for God and this is my chance and my calling.”
He added: “I want to say how grateful I am to Phil, Rick, and my brother Jamey for their dedication and knowing this is what the Lord wants them to do. Rick is a wonderful person. Everyone loves and respects him in the community around here. He should have been mayor of Bristol, Tennessee. His stand for being a Christian resonates all over. I love to hear him sing. He has a high voice and can reach down and get the low notes too. My brother Jamey is another incredible talent. His range is out the top and that’s what we need when having a high tenor like Phil. Jamey also plays an incredible piano, and can burn the strings off of a bass guitar. He also handles the sound. He has supported me for many years and I am so glad he is with Jordan’s Bridge. Phil has been a friend to me from day one. In my view, he is one of the top tenor singers ever. He gives a 100% every time he sings (and at any other time). If you know Phil, then you know how much he loves Jesus, and there’s no doubt. I am a very blessed man in having these men singing with me. We are all enjoying this very much but more important and that is we are doing what God wants and that is serve HIM with the talents HE has given us.”
They have finished their debut recording; it will be released shortly.
