Songs from Lamentations

Posted by + on September 3, 2012 in Commentary | 3 comments

This is the twenty-fifth entry in a series on Songs from the Books of the Bible.

Southern Gospel songs focus on many of the highest themes known to mankind—songs of Salvation, the Cross, the Resurrection, and eternity. But critics claim that they focus on these themes to the exclusion of other Biblical themes which are appropriate and perhaps necessary to address in song.

For how many chapters in Lamentations can we find Southern Gospel songs addressing their themes?

  • Lamentations 3:23: Great is Thy Faithfulness (Bill Gaither Trio, Brian Free & Assurance, Browns, Cathedrals, Collingsworth Family, Couriers, Danny Gaither, Gaither Homecoming Friends, Kim Collingsworth, Kingsmen, Kirk Talley, Legacy Five, Matthew Holt, Mercy’s Mark, Penny Loafers, Talley Trio)

What others come to mind?

  1. Yep, that’s about it. :)

  2. Not a song to add but a artist. Bryan Walker’s stellar acapella performance of ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’ is another amazing one.

    • Is it available on any commercial audio CD recording?
