In the Studio
Greater Vision and the Mark Trammell Trio, the top two trios in Southern Gospel music, are both in the studio, working on new projects. The Mark Trammell Trio is cutting vocals this week for their new project. Greater Vision is working on a project they are labeling as a special project, without giving more details. It seems like the most frequently mentioned possibility in the Southern Gospel online universe is that they could be doing Quartets Vol. 2. But we’ll just have to wait and see.

I would love to see another Quartets volume, but whatever the new project is, I’m sure it will be wonderful.

One has to wonder what criteria were used to crown GV and MTT “the top two trios” to place them ahead of the Booth Brothers. There may be a case for GV, but the MTT has been practically invisible since, well, forever.

That was strictly my opinion. I should have worded it “top two traditional Southern Gospel trios”; the Booth Brothers push the edges enough with their musical arrangements to be labeled as progressive or semi-progressive.
Incidentally, I consider the Mark Trammell Trio to be the best on the road today. I view Eric Phillips as one of the three best tenors in the business today (along with Ernie Haase and John Rulapaugh), and Mark Trammell as one of the three best baritones. I don’t have much familiarity with Dustin Sweatman’s voice yet.
