About
Mission Statement
SouthernGospelBlog.com exists first, to promote the spread of the Gospel through Southern Gospel music with accurate, incisive, and timely news reporting, reviews, and commentary, and second, to promote solid theology and orthopraxy (theology applied) within Southern Gospel.
Contributors
Besides loving Southern Gospel music, each SouthernGospelBlog.com contributor share a few other things in common. Each is a homeschool graduate or parent, and each—oddly enough—hails (or, in Daniel’s case, hailed until 2010) from the North!
Daniel J. Mount
(Site Editor, Ohio/North Carolina) discovered Southern Gospel in 2004, borrowing the Cathedrals’ High and Lifted Up from the local library. I founded SouthernGospelBlog.com in September 2006 to provide a positive and constructive source for news and commentary. I actively collect Southern Gospel recordings; a list of titles I’m currently looking for is here. In 2010, after 3½ years as an independent writer, I started working for Crossroads Music, and moved from Ohio to North Carolina. Opinions expressed on this site are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.
You can read my book reviews and cultural commentary at The Biblical Bookshelf. More information about my songwriting and my 2007 book The Faith of America’s Presidents is at www.danielmount.com.
Sony Elise (Contributor, Michigan) discovered Southern Gospel through a 1982 aerobics cassette featuring two Happy Goodmans songs. She started contributing columns in December 2007. She works for Wisdom’s Gate, a Christian book and periodical publisher. She also writes a regular column for An Encouraging Word, a national ladies’ magazine. She can be contacted at sony@southerngospelblog.com. Her posts are here.
The Garms Family (Contributors, Minnesota) discovered Southern Gospel in 2005, through the Cathedral Quartet and the Gaither Homecoming videos. They started contributing columns in March 2011. David & Kris Garms, and Ben (21), Taylor (20), Leesha (17), Sam (12), Jayme (10), and Caleb (9), live in Minnesota and perform around the Midwest as the Great Adventure Gospel Band. Their interests include music, reading, writing, art, audio/video production, graphic/web designing, goofing off, talking, and just being family. They seek to point people to Jesus Christ through every ministry opportunity they receive, and give glory to all He has done through them. Their posts are here.
Daniel’s Siblings (Contributors, Ohio) discovered Southern Gospel at about the same time Daniel did, through pretty much the same groups! They started contributing columns in March 2011. They presently wish to remain identified only collectively. Their posts are here.
